* La Mezquita de Cordoba: With the floor space the size
of four football pitches and 600 marble columns decorating it, La Mezquita is the largest mosque in Western
Europe. Its extraordinary acoustic makes any word spoken inside available to the entire congregation. Over the period
of 200 years, rulers would extend the mosque three times because the Muslim population of Spain was growing fast.

* Standard history books in Spain present
the Muslim occupation as something superficial. All over Spain, cities like Cordoba were established. Even Madrid, Spain's capital city, was founded by Muslims. The Original Arab walls still stand behind
the Royal Palace.
People converted to Islam because this was a faith that could offer them wealth,
social structure and intellectual power. For instance, when the Arabs came to Spain, they started to open paper factories.
While the most important library in france at the time could hold 900 books, any of the 70 libraries in Cordoba could hold
over half a million. These books contained some of the more sophisticated studies of Astronomy in the world..
Cordoba scientists were streets ahead of the rest of Europe,
especially when it came to medicine. The hospitals of Cordoba were conducting surgical procedures that wouldn't be seen in
the rest of Europe for hundreds of years.
Al-Zahrawi introduced more
than 200 surgical tools in his
medical encyclopaedia.
He included illustrations and
detailed information on how
and when each instrument
was to be used.

Every piece of evidence from Cordoba adds to the picture of a civilised
and highly sophisticated city. It had medical centers, and organised legal system and libraries full of academics
and scientist working on ideas that were light-years ahead of anything else in Europe. Cordoba became the capital city
of Al-Andalus...
